This is a medium for me to express and share my journey into the great outdoors. Expect hiking, fishing, camping and the study of nature with a pinch of bushcraft!

So, I woke up pretty early the other day, made breakfast and had my cup of coffee.
Pacing back and forth in our tiny apartment as I usually do, looked out through the window on the fresh snow which was covering the ground - remembering that the night before was one of those dream-like evenings with a snow covered sky - heavy snow, covering the ground on just a few minutes, quiet and peaceful.

I decided to hike around the lake which is just outside the town where I live, a 35km long hike in the snow with a beautiful lake view, perfect environment to hike around and the perfect image for the amateur photographer which I am.

Enough said, I packed my bag with all I were to need for my adventure.

My Nikon D3400, food, bushstove and cooking equipment as well as my woolblanket for when I finally found a great place to make a small camp for taking a lunchbreak.

I were just about to head out through the door when I checked my phone, I had gotten a text message through my instagram, courious to whom were texting me - I had to look.

It happened to be a frenchman which I had met on a campsite when I was out photographing and were to cook some dinner over the flames - he was wondering if we should meet up and do a overnighter in the snow.

My first thought was to decline, mostly because I´m not used to meet new people - and I truely hate to speak english (funny since I choose to write in english haha), but I decided, what the hell - why shouldn´t I, I have the oppertunity to meet new people and get to go outdoors and do what I love to do !

Enough said, we were to meet up a couple of hours later and travel together with bus to a place just a couple of kilometers from where I live. As we arrived to the hiking trail we had one goal, we need to find a good location to set up camp with a good resource of fire wood and some what in cover from the weather. Mostly because for my sake, I was using a DD Hammocks 3x3 tarp so I would be the most exposed to the elements.

We had just around 1.5 hours before sunset - to put up our camp, collect firewood and all the other essential things which were easier to do while we had some daylight.

The rest of the night were shared around the fire, speaking about all and nothing, shared some knowledge and talked about photographing, video making and gear.

Never the less I managed to sleep for half an hour at the time for the rest of the night and by 7 o´clock I decided to head out and try to capture the sunrise (the weather forcast said it should be a clear sky this morning), hiked my way through the cold winter morning up on a hill just a couple of hundreds of meter from our camp.

In the heavy cloud covered morning sky, the moon managed to squeeze through some illuminating lights - giving me just enough light to so my poor 18-77mm lens could capture the moon light.

I think it´s pretty interesting how two people from different backgrounds, wealth and cultures can come together to be joined in union and enjoy something as simple as nature - here we were two strangers with nothing in common besides, photography and nature, still we managed to bound and come together as what I would call - as friends.

We had a short break, talking about life in general and our ambitions and goals as photographers and film maker, I need to say that he has a more ambitious goal than me, making beautiful drone and hiking videos as a guide for those whom might want to go outdoors and hike a trail or visit some specifik area but don´t know how or are corious about how the trail look like.
(Hope I got it right haha)

I found the way he talked about his ambitions as a film maker, to be something I think I miss in my life, a true calling - knowing exactly what I want to do and giving it my all.

It made me think of what my ambitions with this blog and with my instagram page are, to be honest I don´t know. I don´t post things to get followers and become famous or to become a gear tester and earn an income out of it, I just want to share my adventures, ideas and thoughts through images and words.

My ambitions with this blog were and are a way to unburden some of my thoughts - into writing, to talk about depression and how I deal with it and also to share my love as an outdoors lover, but also to hopefully inspire someone to get outdoors, go hiking, go fishing - pick up wood carving as a hobby, carving spoons and kuksas is really fun, I promise!

Guess we all need to think about what´s important to us and find a way to
pursue our goals in life.

Thanks to Guillaume for inviting me for some winter adventure!
We all know how it feels to witness the never ending autum weather, constantly raining and the wind sweeps all the fallen leafs from beneath our feet. Heavy footsteps and heavy clothes are becoming to be the new norm, people around you starts to resemble the naked crowns of the mighty oak trees -naked and trembling by the cold weather.

A cold breeze of winter hits your face and your cheeks are becoming to be red and sore, making you wish that you would´ve grown that beard or that you should´ve recalled to grab that scarf on the shelf before heading out.

Even though autum makes some people feel depressed, you can not deny the beauty of a sunny autum day, the warmth from the sun and cold air from the wind, the smell of fallen leafs, mushrooms and the wet ground beneath. Some birds are singing the last song for the season - preparing for the long travel in search of warmer weather.

(I will modify it on side to make it easier to feed the fire with sticks without having to remove the pot above and there for reducing the time it takes to boil some water or cook food.)

It´s starting to get cold and day light is more precious than toilett paper in a out-house.

Don´t fear the darkness and the cold breeze of winter, embrace it and make use of it as much as you can, create memories, boil a cup of coffee or a cup of hot chocolate in the warm bosom of a campfire, alone or with those you love.

Lately I´ve been feeling stuck, unable to focus and think straight,
life does constantly hit me hard with the harsch truth about how quick things can change,

whether it´s about health, love, work or money. It always seems to make itself noticeable when you are in a comfortable state in mind and in life.

Unable to contribute in your relationship and unable to proceed your career, hobbies etc.
It makes for an uncomfortable situation where ever you´re in life.

This is where I´m right now, in the past three and a half month - I´ve gone from being an entrepreneur - unemployed and currently a student. I´ve also got diagnosed with depression.
Still I´m able to work hard stay concentrated on school, getting healthy and trying to remain a healthy realtion with my partner.

The problem isn´t where I fell short on effort it´s where I lack the finacially aid to continue with my medication, education and contribution within the household.

This tears you apart from the inside out and you don´t know what to do, how to handle the situation, should you keep at it or should you quit school and become unemployed once again - trying to find a job and potentically getting more depressed.

Tough choice and to much to figure out by myself.

I´ve been having this urge to get out into the bush and be alone for a few weeks now and yesterday I finally manage to find some time and motivation to get out there.

So I decided to pack my backpack and made sure to bring my fishingrod, went for a little hike by a river where I´ve been fishing a few times.
Found this little spot between mainland and a small island so made myself comfortable haha.

The essence of calmness by the river and the distance sound of birds singing, firewood sparkling is the true medication for the soul, not thinking about school, money and relationships.

Just enjoying the moment, doing camp chores like collecting firewood, gather tinder. deciding whether you should go for birch bark, pine resin or why not make it harder for yourself and strike some feathersticks to start your fire.

Should you craft something for boiling tea or just put it by the fire?

Made a quick two piece pot-hanger.

Grab two sticks, a long one and short stick preferable one with a twig on it used as the hook where you hang your pot on. (Alt. one straight one then carve your own "hook" to hang your pot on.)

Then carve a groove in the short stick as demostrated in the drawing below.
Sharpen your longer stick in one end so it´s easier to drive into the ground and in the other end make a straight cut across the stick then flatten the tip of the stick, it shouldn´t be a sharp point but thin enough to hang your pot hook steadily on the tip.

Then drive the stick down into the ground in a angle which allows you to balance your pot-hanger with pot above the fire, some tweeking might require but once you´ve got it right its steady and easy to use. (You might would like to anchor the burried point of the stick with a rock above it to prevent tilting if angle to steep or to heavy pot.)

I've been reading and seen videos on youtube for a couple of years ,were people are talking about acorn coffee and how tasty it is, but I've always been a little doubtful towards it sence all the tannin in them.

But last week I decided to try to make some to see what all the fuzz was all about.

So a quick search through the internet led me to a couple of recipes so I made the best I could with what I found and here is how I did it.

(I have to say that I did a batch before this one and I just boiled the acorns one time and it was horrible haha.)

Step 1.
Gather the acorns.

Welcome to my new blog Outdoors living with Andy!

This is meant to be a medium where I can express myself through words instead of speech,
a place where I can share and document my learnings, growth and the freedom of being outdoors.
Hopefully I can share someknowledge and maybe inspire some one to go outdoors and enjoy what nature has to offer.

I´m not used to write blogs or write for something to be read so stay with me and hopefully I´ll get a hang on it, if not then I do appologize haha..

You can expect read everything within a range from hiking, fishing, bushcraft, camping and the glorious thing called cooking - even some school related stuff and how I´m dealing with depression.

But who am I?
There isn´t anything special about me, I´m just a regular dude from the southern parts of Sweden - who happens to enjoy goofing around in the woods.
I´m currently study to become a garderner, I´m shocked myself but I actually loves it!

My interest of nature in general was brought opon me at a young age, my dad used to fish a lot when I was young and me and my buddy was always out in the woods doing weird stuff haha.
Unfortunelly I got disconnected to mother earth as a teen and I got lost in all drama and bullshit that teenagers go through which led me into depression and it´s a constant struggle to keep going and not to fall back into it but I think that as long you do more of what you love, life will become easier!

Hope you´ll have a pleasure reading and taking part of my journey into outdoors living!
